Those who sew can make a good looking, homemade bible cover no matter if they are skilled at sewing or not. The process of making a homemade bible cover is easy and takes only simple stitches that can be done by hand or with a sewing machine. If the crafter doesn’t know how to sew, this type of cover can be made with fabric glue, instead.
Homemade Bible Cover Supplies
These supplies can be found at most craft and sewing stores. The crafter will also need to have the Bible that will be using the cover. It is important to choose the right fabric for this craft. Quilted fabric or upholstery fabric works well for a thick, durable bible cover. Avoid flimsy or thin fabrics. They will be hard to work with and will not protect the Bible’s cover as well.

Instructions for How to Make a Homemade Bible Cover
Making a Bible cover is done by folding the fabric and securing it so that there are two pockets for the cover to slip into.
Lay the fabric printed side down on the work surface and place the Bible, open, on top.
Trace a line around the Bible with the chalk onto the fabric.
Add one inch to the tracing at the top and bottom of the Bible by measuring with the ruler and making a new line in chalk.
Add 5″ to the side tracings and make a new line with your chalk.
Cut out the fabric rectangle and hem the edges of the fabric. To do a hem, place the fabric face down on the work surface and fold 1/2″ of fabric over. Glue this fold down. Pin the fold with straight pins. Fold the edge again and glue or sew it in place.
Fold 4″ of the left side over and sew the top and bottom edges to the fabric to create a pocket. Do this to the right side as well.
Slip the Bible’s cover into the pockets. The bible cover is now complete.
Crafters can decorate the front of the cover with by gluing on pressed flowers, jewels or other decorations. The crafter can also leave the cover plain.
