Very few BASICS DRs can RSI actually. They will be the 1st to agree that to remain competent in such a skill needs plenty of exposure. Most BASICS are from a GP background so are unable to maintain RSI skills.
Just watched the video again and at 2.29, if you look at his collar hes only a EMT. Basics doctors can also do RSI’s
@drewemt Uk paramedics can intubate and canulate. Technicans cant. RSI is a critical care paramedic procedure or HEMS only.
Do paramedics in the UK not Intubate or RSI patients?…it looked like the doctor had to do it?
@FJones9508 Part 2: Paramedics would have attend aswell but if they need help then the only people higher than them is a doctor
@FJones9508 There’s no helicopter cover at night because the pad on the roof of the Royal London is not cleared for night landings.
The HEMS doctors are trained to a far more advanced extent than paramedics (they’re A+E registrars at the very least most are senior doctors) and can carry out invasive surgical proceedures at the roadside (if needed ) in the very most serious cases such as open chest su. In many of the cases that HEMS attend, the patient would die without surgical intervention.

The out of hours version of the Air Ambulance? Why not just send an ambulance with qualified paramedics if your not going to send an actual helicopter? I don’t understand someone please fill me in. This seems like a waste of critical time unless they get there before the ambulance every time. Does London not fly HEMS at night?

@matthewdawson14 Yes mate
